my flowerhorn                        There is a belief in the Far East that ownership of a Flowerhorn brings good fortune, especially in business and gambling. The hump that the adult male fish develops is said to resemble the Chinese god of longevity, and it is believed that the owners luck will grow if the fish's hump grows. The adult males are the most commercially valuable. Flowerhorns have distinctive markings on their sides, which can be interpreted as recognisable symbols.                                           HD Aquarium Screensaver Flowerhorns are hardy and very undemanding fish to keep in an aquarium. They do, however, require large aquariums due to their large size - they can grow up to 16 inches (40 cm) long. They are aggressive and carnivorous, and can only be kept with other large fish.                              Flowerhorn and Arowana                               I bought my flowerhorn fish in the year 2007 at the famous fish market in Banpong, Ratchaburi Thailand. It was my first flowerhorn and I was not sure it it is a male or female flowerhorn. I just liked that little beautiful fish. It's color and the strange signs on the flanks of the fish. It was only later that I learned the meaning of the flowerhorn. That the hump represents a chinese god and that the signs resemble chinese letters. My flowerhorn grow up both in a 300 liter aquarium aswell as in a small pond in front of my house. I noticed that it grows up more fast if held in a pond. But in a pond it is difficult to watch the fish and as a predator it will eat up all the other fishes if small enough to fit its mouth. In fact the flowerhorn is a very aggressive fish, which will normally not tolerate other fishes in the aquarium. For some flowerhorn it is ok to stay with other fish, but they must be as big or bigger than the flowerhorn. I like the flowerhorn because of it's dominant and aggressive behavior, it's beautiful shape and colors. And it's just fun to feed the fish with live food like insects. Once we catched a small snake near our house and we decided to feed it to the fish. The flowerhorn imediatly attacked the snake and it was swallowed in no time!
